I Ain't the Same

Feb. 18, 2000

See the sun creepin' up
Like it done did before
Same black birdy rappin'
On that old wooden door
The Power still winnin'
Your team it's still losin'
Bluesman still singin'
And the bums are still boozin'
Smoke it still chokes
Fire still got its flame
No, the world is not changed
But I ain't the same

Seasons still sailin'
'Cross that old river shore
And time it's still movin'
Steady just like before
Freedom fighter still losin'
No matter how hard she tries
Seems you still do much better
If you keep spinnin' them lies
Ever'body still tryin'
To rig the rules of the game
No, the world is not changed
But I ain't the same

Rain it still drops
And it weighs down your hair
You're too busy to notice
And too busy to care
People still dyin'
Like they done did before
Hear the TV-man cryin'
"Film at seven for more!"
Still no one to look to
Still no one to blame
No, the world is not changed
But I ain't the same

Moon still looms above
Then slips out of sight
And beauty still haunts you
Keeps you restless at night
Confusion still reigns
Over your body and soul
You still ain't too sure
You'll ever be in control
Man still needs his woman
Cripple still needs his cane
No, the world is not changed
But I ain't the same
