An Emergency
Aug. 20, 2001
I'm gonna buy me some religion
At the temple in the strip mall
Right next to the auto shop
Where a sign says, "Jesús is on call"
In between the Krispy Kreme
And a miscellaneous dollar store
There is for sale another scheme
Offering serenity and so much more
The multiplex was packed today
With the fans of popcorn flicks
But I wound up going just that way
My indie, too, was in the mix
It must have been an emergency
For the man in the urinal next to mine
While he went about his business
He talked on his cell phone the whole time
In the window of that dollar store
Virgin Marys glow in the dark
While ghastly halogen lights burn out
In a nearby industrial park
